I am from Derby, England, so I am a diehard Derby County fan, regardless of all the troubles and turmoil over the years! I also enjoy taking inspiration from the world around me and seeing how I can apply those learnings to my life, both personally and professionally.

I was a Preclinical Project Manager/Translational Scientist at Antisoma.

Clients make decisions all the time based on the intelligence that we provide; multiply that by numerous brand and product development teams across projects, then there is an impact so broad it can be difficult to imagine. Sometimes we know exactly what the impact is, but sometimes there could be an internal client stakeholder that makes a decision based on our information and it is gratifying to learn of this, even when it is years later.

Provide an environment that balances freedom and control, empowers the project manager to take project responsibility and creates empathy. The ultimate aim is to achieve complete trust within the team, celebrate coaching and support that drives growth, recognize important nuances that can be important drivers of final delivery, and encourage curiosity and creativity that can be spread company wide.

Provide opportunities as often as possible in a safe environment and gradually give more exposure and responsibility as confidence increases. Encourage and support new opportunities; do not just give people experiences but grow their ability to learn and hopefully a path to master their consultative skills.

The ability to learn from multiple clients in different companies, giving broad exposure and opportunities to meet new challenges that are usually unexpected and finding new opportunities for growth, regardless of the client and specific situation.

I was a PhD student in biomedical engineering studying bone cells and how they adapt to mechanical forces to form or resorb bone.

I wanted to continue to do research and use my problem-solving and critical thinking skills to impact decisions being made in the pharmaceutical industry.

I have most recently been surprised and encouraged by how effective our teams and the business has been during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I worked at three pharmaceutical companies – J&J, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Abbott – in marketing and commercial roles before joining Prescient.

Having worked on the client side, I wanted to experience the fast-paced consulting side of the business. I wanted to explore the different kinds of challenges that consultants get called upon to tackle and be able to bring some of my previous expertise into the new job.

Take up complex business challenges, break them up into smaller achievable tasks, work in teams and execute on them in a timely fashion.

Being able to contribute to, lead diverse engagements and shape overall development of the final product that comes out of research.

Various aspects, but the most important for me is the diverse and dynamic nature of the work while being able to materially impact client strategies.

I am helping pharmaceutical companies plan or improve their businesses, which ultimately has a significant impact on the healthcare community.

Understanding their goals and identifying the best tasks that fit their goals, providing them with opportunities to choose what is best for them and showing them how things are done (by example).

Understand the talent by providing them with diverse opportunities and seeing what attracted them most and where they performed best. Understand their issues and support them in finding a solution. Provide them with specific and logical milestones in achieving their goals and nourishing the talent (and get someone else involved in case I do not have expertise in identifying talent-specific milestones). I encourage and back them if they take missteps when I see the intent was correct and/or where they feel they are not getting acknowledged for achieving their milestones.

I assess all our findings (science-based or non-science-based) for how they impact the overall business objective or issue. If the particular science is relevant to the business objective or issue at hand, then the impact of that science is assessed against its value to the market the client is targeting and how it compares to those of the competitors.

Being able to help such major companies with their strategies that could directly impact healthcare is the key part. Speaking to executives from different companies, cultures, locations and backgrounds allows a lot of learning. I also enjoy brainstorming sessions with clients and being able to become a support network with them (at least with those who allow us to).

I was a full-time grad student while being a full-time quality control technician at a diagnostics laboratory.

As a project manager with a passion for being on the forefront of science, who was looking for a dynamic yet challenging work environment, I found the perfect fit with Prescient – the opportunity to be exposed to new and exciting developments in pharmaceuticals.

I manage several projects, both internally and externally, across major therapeutic areas such as immunology, dermatology and respiratory diseases.
